This will keep the overall file size as small as possible. After you complete this step, you’ll get an email with a link to a status page.
This page will tell you how long you’re going to have to wait.
In my case, it was 4.6 hours, as there were 46 others in the queue before me. The link in your email will take you to a page with several files, as in the shot below. Incidentally, if you use the Garmin Mapsource program, this download screen also includes a link to the Map Source installer for your free OSM map, so this could be useful to you. It’s like a big tupperware jar, sealing that fresh map inside.
Please remove unnecesary files from your device and try running the update again. Inside this folder are all the voices loaded onto your device.
I connect to the computer to upgrade the free lifetime maps and I get the following message: NOTE: Your device does not have enough space to perform a firmware update. Connect the device to your pc and then open my computer and double click the nuvi drive followed by the "voices" folder.
If you'd prefer to not have to delete those files, you can also purchase an SD card for your Nuvi which will allow you to keep the files and still update your maps.
Here is the link to the correct one for your Nuvi...https://buy.garmin.com/shop/shop.do?p ID=69976 Ok..can also delete any help files as well that you do not need...there are help files in many languages on the device.I'd still recommend getting the SD card also as it will greatly expand the map coverage you can hold on your Nuvi. Plug your Nuvi back into your computer via USB cable if you unplugged it already...Ok, these instructions are long so please do not panic, ok? :-) These instructions will only work if you've already set it to "Show hidden files and folders" as requested earlier...I am sure you did that, but wanted to make double sure.Just click on the one that says “gmapsupp.zip” at the end of the filename, to download it to a place where you’ll be able to access it later, like your My Docs folder, or the desktop. It also includes the link to the Base Camp/Road Trip files for Mac OSX users too. So, extract the img file to a convenient location, like your Desktop.
