Formerly in 9.x field aliases could be easily updated en masse in the GDB_FIELDINFO table.
The error message is: Error Type: Microsoft OLE DB Provider for SQL Server (0x80040E14) The identifier that starts with 'Long list of text that i'm trying to insert' is too long. Cheers Bj I have a website using a SQL Server database to store all of it's data.
Retrieving data and writing basic data back is fine, however, when i go to update one table that has a text field in it the update fails if the amount of data being passed to the text field is too large. (And please post any error messages.) -- Erland Sommarskog, SQL Server MVP, es****@Books Online for SQL Server SP3 at don't want to truncate it, i would like the whole data to be passed through and inserted into the field.

I see that field alias names in Arc SDE 10.x are in the GDB_Items table stuffed into an xml.
Most likely you will not want to do something like this, but you might have a case when you need to update several table rows at once.
For example if one of the company's offices has been moved from San Francisco to Los Angeles you might want to update all users with City San Francisco to Los Angeles (we assume that the employees have moved too).In our case it says to update the Email filed of the row having email [email protected] happens if you remove the WHERE clause and your SQL query looks like this: The answer is that all Email entries in the Users table will be changed to [email protected] there a way around this or a particular update i should be using? Is that text as in the datatype text, or just a varchar column? The field is of type TEXT (which stores up to 2gig right? The error message is: Error Type: Microsoft OLE DB Provider for SQL Server (0x80040E14) The identifier that starts with 'Long list of text that i'm trying to insert' is too long. This is because you are delimiting a string literal with double quotes.) so it should hold the amount of text i'm wanting to insert.
